The Courage to Live Freely

Posted by Nicole Bowman on Thursday, August 13, 2009 Under: Love and Healing

I often wonder about people who are so critical of others. Where does this come from? I've experienced my fair share of criticism, but what I find most compelling is that the people who rail the loudest rarely produce anything worthwhile. They may take a piece of art and dissect it, but are seemingly  unable to create anything meaningful on their own.

If they were to take the energy used for attacking others and channel it into their own creative process, imagine the possibilites. Would the disgruntled screenwriter see his worked illuminated on the silver screen? Would the unemployed actress connect with a role that fed her artistically and financially? Would the young director who claims to abhor Hollywood finally admit that directing a major motion picture is all he ever wanted?

I wonder...

It takes so much courage to stand in the face of adversity and offer up a piece of your soul, but what is the alternative? To never live at all? To secretly hope and  wish that your life could be different? To be so terrified of being laughed at that you never compose a symphony or dance with your soulmate or finish your play?

That isn't an alternative. That isn't even living. It's just...getting by.

I know that each and every one of us was born to live with hearts wide open. Beautiful works of art are waiting to be created, but we are the artists necessary to birth them. It's time to heed the call.

Go live.
